Take on all challengers in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, one of the most iconic fighting games ever released.
Mortal Kombat 3 changed fighting games and even gaming in general. Not only was it the best fighting game ever made at the time, but it succeeded in using 2D to create a 3D experience in a way that no other game had. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was released in arcades later in 1995, and UMK3 added features, including a new gameplay system, as well as characters. In fact, UMK3 brought back both Scorpion and Kitana, who’d been absent from Mortal Kombat 3 to the chagrin of many fans.
This version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is designed for the Windows operating system and remains faithful to the original arcade release. This includes later revisions as well, such as the Ultimate Kombat Code feature that provides access to characters like Ermac and classic Sub-Zero. UMK3 features a 2-on-2 mode in addition to traditional 1-on-1. The 2-on-2 mode plays like an Endurance match but with two human players playing against two others.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 also features a tournament mode which was rather advanced for its time. All you need is two controllers, and the mode supports up to eight players. You can dictate how the tournament unfolds, and the game will track everything else until you crown a champion. Other enhancements include improved AI, damage adjustments for moves that were too weak or too powerful in MK3 and alternative ways to initiate chain combos.
This version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 doesn’t include a list of special moves that you can access from within the game. This isn’t something that gamers expect or most fighting games provide. The good news, thanks to the popularity of UMK3, is that this information is readily available online. If you are able while you learn, have the move list on a tablet, for instance, to offset this one minor flaw altogether.
